Frances McDormand's character is frustrated, sad and angry. Months after her daughter is brutally murdered, there are still no leads, so she has 3 billboards painted with messages that provoke the town's sheriff (Woody Harrelson).
Toss in a cruel, bumbling officer (Sam Rockwell) and you have the makings of a brilliantly brutal, cruel, sweet and hilarious experience. The performances are all Oscar grade and writer/director Martin McDonagh (In Bruges, Seven Psychopaths) has topped his own exceptional work with this profane and profound film.
The story takes unexpected twists, the emotions range from fury to empathy and the script is full of outrageous, surprising dialogue. The legacy of the Cohen brothers is taken to its darkest extreme in this complex and exceptional work.
