Review of ¡Three Amigos! (1986) by Ben B — 27 May 2010
First Kurosawa, now Landis opts to remake A Bugs Life. Bizarre. Anyway, it was while watching this that I came to ponder the true "essence" of comedy. I pondered during the unfunny bits - so I had a good 1 hour and 44 minutes of pondering. Sadly that wasn't enough time to fully dissect "comedy", but I did come to realise that comedy has to surprise. In this film, the jokes are set up ten minutes in advance, plod slowly towards the screen, and then expect applause.
Less funny than being punched in the face repeatedly by someone who doesn't like you.
