Review of Threads (1985) by Alan D — 17 Sep 2009
Nothing can quite prepare you for threads. essential a docudrama about the events leading up to, during and after a nuclear attack on the U.K. the film focuses around one family living in Sheffield. the acting is a little wooden, but the build up and structure is extremely effective.
the story has no hero's only extremely harsh and disturbing realism. from the figures for the amount of deaths to immanent sickness and incontinence that would follow exposure to radiation. threads doesn't hold back.
be warned it is not for the faint hearted, and that is not a dare to make you go watch it. it's graphic and could seriously unsettle you. an extremely well made dramatization, but in some ways the most disturbing film i've ever seen.
you have been warned.
