Review of Threads (1985) by Colin F — 06 Jan 2010
Once seen, never forgotten docudrama which demonstrates slowly, scientifically, objectively and above all, painfully what would happen if nuclear war were to break out, thus revealing the knife edge that we all live on, to the unrealisation of many.
Ignorance is truly bliss. It is scarier than any horror film can ever be because there is absolutely no distance between yourself and the material, you recognise clearly the people and places involved, and eventually the far-reaching consequences start to sink in, consequences that you may never have thought of before.
The title refers to the 'threads' of society that we all take for granted, and how easily chaos can break out if just one of them is severed. If they are all severed, the results are perhaps better left imagined, but this film shows them, making it a film that should not be watched alone, at night, or most certainly whilst under any kind of depression whatsoever.
