Review of Thoroughly Modern Millie (1967) by Sarah B — 16 Jul 2007
Wonderful spoof of the roaring 20's, or "The Jazz Age." Everything in this movie is a spot-on parody of what happened in the 20's. Flappers, independant woman, the talk, etc. Some scenes were weird, the Jewish wedding, which I think the only point of that was to show just how great Julie Andrews is- she can sing in Yiddish, doesn't add to the plot at all.
But man, Beatrice Lillie is histerical as the villain. She sits and stares at cups, confused, and makes it look histerical. Rather odd, very odd, plot, but the randomness of it is another thing that added to the hilarity of it.
If you know anything about the Jazz Age, you'll most likely enjoy this spoof of it.
