Review of Thoroughbreds (2018) by Ryan S — 11 Mar 2018
I came into this one expecting a tawdry yarn full of wit and sardonic satire, but what I found was a somewhat dull and dour film with its sandpaper tongue stuck so deep in it's bone dry mouth that I felt like I was dying of thirst by the end.
All of the performances are good (the film perks up especially whenever anton yelchin who adds much needed verve in a very deliberately paced film appears) but the film itself embodies the detached and overly calculated nature of the main characters to the point that its hard to feel anything for them or the targets of their meticulous wrath.
