Review of Thoroughbreds (2018) by Jake C — 11 Sep 2018
Really, is there anything more narratively compelling than the ennui of rich teenagers? What can be more gripping than characters who lack all feeling, and who therefore are structurally unable to emotionally or intellectually develop, their character arcs remaining as flat as the American median household income over the past thirty-plus years? Is there anything more *gasp* shocking than the idea that wealth breeds sociopathy and that even (especially!) the families of the 1% are dysfunctional? How fortunate are we, then, to not be duped by and mired in the toxicity of extreme wealth-let them have their mansions and their luxury cars (which we will park for them), so long as we can still feel and grow, I guess.
