Review of Thoroughbreds (2018) by Thomas B — 23 Aug 2018
Very promising debut from writer/director Cory Finley. As far as aesthetics go, 'Thoroughbreds' is excellent. From the costume design to the sweeping steady-cam shots and the beautiful scenery - combined with the beauty of the two main leads - it's certainly an eye-pleasing movie.
It tackles some interesting psychological ideas; not always quite to the effect that it's going for but it was always engaging and sporadically genuinely intriguing. All in all, combined with great performances from Olivia Cooke and Anya Taylor-Joy, this is a well-made black comedy that shows great promise in Finley.
Looking forward to whatever he does next.
