Review of Thor: The Dark World (2013) by Ian S — 21 Feb 2015
This was misleadingly sold as a dark, apocalyptic epic, which doesn't do it many favours - Thor: The Dark World actually isn't all that dark; in parts it's actually much lighter and sillier than the first film.
This doesn't really hinder proceedings - the first half of the film is Asgard-heavy and very strong, but unfortunately it turns into one of those uneven edited-by-committee studio efforts which feels like about 25 minutes has been cut out of it - the pacing for the final stretch is very hectic, and the film sort of unravels a little bit and winds up slightly forgettable.
Still, it's a lot of fun; even if Christopher Eccleston's Malekith is without question the weakest villain we've encountered in the Marvel Universe, the rest of The Dark World is definitely diverting enough.
