Review of Thor: The Dark World (2013) by Simon D — 06 Feb 2016
When I first watched Thor: The Dark World, I honestly thought that it was better than the first movie. Then I was seeing how it has the lowest reviews for a Marvel film in the universe which got me wondering about why it was that way.
So I got older and got to see the sequel again, and yeah, it's definitely the weakest Marvel film that I've seen so far, but I still did like it for entertainment values. The movie is about Jane that discovered Aether, it consumed her, which awoken the Dark Elves, and Thor works with Loki to destroy them and the Aether.
The plot is really nothing special and just feel like a filler movie to distract the time for us to go to the next Marvel movie. The villain is so forgettable and so generic that I didn't even care about what his plan is as I already know what he's going to do.
Kat Dennings is in this more, and not even one did she made me laugh, and was definitely a weak comedic relief character with no purpose of being there. The action scenes are always great to watch, and the effects are really good, which we get to see more of Asgard which I was happy to see.
The interplay between Thor and Loki is the best and funniest part of the film, but there wasn't a lot of it which I was disappointed to see. I'm glad that Jane is more useful in the sequel than in the original, and the acting is still really good from Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, and Tom Hiddleston.
There are funny moments in the film, and I was still interested to see where it was going even though I knew where it was going. I still like Thor: The Dark World, but I definitely understand why people would hate it as this is definitely one of those films that will make it, or break it depending on the viewer's opinion.
