Review of Thor: The Dark World (2013) by Brendan N — 27 Aug 2017

Marvel hit a streak of blockbusters and this film is quite similar to Iron Man 2 in terms of quality. I liked the first Thor and thought this could be quite good given the talents behind the camera and in front, but it is a weak sequel that is sustained by the great cast. The first third and tiresome exposition, the film feels like it is chasing the back story the whole time, which grows a little tiresome. I heard the marvel team and director didn't see eye to eye and considering he was in charge of Terminator Genesys, they might have been correct. This film had a decent level of protection at the time and I haven't changed my mind about it, it just feels to big of a storyline on earth for The Avengers not to be involved. The same can be said for Iron Man 3, these save the world films cannot live inside the marvel universe without needing the other superheros to be involved. Not an interesting film overall and just missed an opportunity to have phase kicking off in style. 2017-08-28.

Caught this again on the weekend and must say it still lacks the ambition that the first inspired to be or the thirds attempt at reshaping the medium. The dark elves lacked scope and the reason they wanted the darkness just felt like a giant lack of storytelling. Villain lacked the creation to hold his own in a film that is all about the hero, this is why Marvel is lacking in the story elements to be anything more than gathering the film masses. 04/05/2018.
