Thor the Dark World is a lot like Iron Man 2 in that it's a very mediocre and flawed movie that has some good movies and one fantastic peformance that saves this movie. When this film came out my expectation wasn't very high, even from the promotional material I thought this movie looked ok, and that's what this is, it's far from great but it's definatley not awful.

All the acting is great, Chris Hemsworth is a great lead, he's very charismatic and likeable as Thor, I also really like seeing how his character has grown and there is some more good fish out of water jokes in the movie.

Natalie Portman is good but I really don't care about Jane anymore she was very likeable in the first movie and likeable in this movie but her character is boring and even though they have new stuff for her to do she's still really boring.

Anthony Hopkins and Rene Russo are both great like last time. Christopher Eccleston is very good as Malekith, he's a terrible villain but he gives a good peformance. Idris Elba is badass as usual he's a great actor and I love his character.

Stellan Skarsgard is very good as Eric Selvig and he does have some good jokes. Kat Dennings was tolerable in the first movie but here she is ridiculously annoying. The first third of this film is actually really bad, it's boring, the action is terrible and I didn't care what was going on.

However once Thor and Loki team up and try and take down Malekith the film really pics up and becomes very entertaining. Speaking of Malekith he's an awful villain, he's on about the same level as the Mandarin as far as terrible Marvel cinematic universe villains go.

He's very unthreatening, I don't care about his plans or motives and when he SPOILER ALERT dies I really don't care, even when he kills Thor's mum I don't care he's just boring.

The action is unfortunately quite bland, the end action scene is very inventive but it's quite underwhelming, unlike other Marvel movies I can't remember a lot of the action scenes off the top of my head.

The humour is pretty good, it's not constant laughs but it's definatley funny. Tom Hiddleston steals the show, it was great to see Loki return and he was just phenomenal. His character was funny, mischievous and very entertaining to watch.

Unlike in the first movie the scenes on earth are actually quite boring, they're not as funny as the ones in the first movie and they just drag down the film. The cgi is good, Thor's hammer is great as ever and it is cool to see them set the earth scenes here in the UK.

One my biggest problems with the film is how unimportant it feels, unlike Captain America the Winter Soldier this film has no impact on the Marvel cinematic universe. Thor and co turn up, defeat the villain, save the day and that's it, Malekith does nothing to impact the Marvel universe and this film is so unimportant that it makes it rewatchability for this film extremely low.

However the last two thirds of this movie are rather entertaining and move at a relatively fast pace. Overall Thor the Dark World has a boring first act, terrible villain, underwhelming action and no impact on the Marvel series.

However great acting with Tom Hiddleston being the highlight, very good last two thirds and is overall rather entertaining. It's far from perfect and it's really forgettable but it's worth a watch.

B-.
