Review of Thor: Ragnarok (2017) by Lewis C — 28 Jan 2018
Thor Ragnarok is arguably the most entertaining Marvel movie to date. After the underwhelming first two films in the Thor franchise, the tone is rebooted, with humour coming to the forefront. The cast is almost perfect, with Chris Hemsworth shining as Thor and Tom Hiddleston putting in another strong performance as Loki.
The rest of the cast is great too, with Valkyrie and The Hulk being standout characters. The action sequences are dazzling with songs such as "Immigrant Song" adding to the intensity. The humour is almost always on point.
However, some scenes could benefit from a more serious tone. One of biggest criticisms of the film is the underwhelming story of Rangnarok on Thor's home planet of Asgard. The story hardly takes place here until the end, with much of the film focusing on events elsewhere.
Cate Blanchett is strong enough though, to keep these scenes interesting and relevant to the overall story. Overall, Thor Ragnarok is a very enjoyable movie experience. The new comedic tone as changed the image of the Thor franchise, and provides one of the greatest marvel movies to date, despite some minor drawbacks.
