Review of Thor: Ragnarok (2017) by Random V — 13 Feb 2018
A crazy, darkly comedic, psychedelic, heavy metal, cosmic scifi action adventure movie. Color schemes, environment, costume, single-scene slow-motion flashbacks, and technology designs all work together to show clearly defined worlds so that we always know where we are in the universe.
Disney/Marvel definitely knows how to use a budget, and the details are worth every penny. It's such a big, whopping celebration of mayhem with such perfect pacing, my moods easily shift between comedy, excitement, and plight that I never feel fatigued or overburdened by any of it.
In short, it's fun, and it's great to get to see how Marvel Cinematic Universe gods and monsters handle duress. Usually when they weaken a powerful character it feels like lazy writing, but instead we get a movie where we watch a character pull out his godhead.
I mean, I haven't had this much fun with psychedelic metal since watching a GWAR show!
