Review of Thor: Ragnarok (2017) by Kay A — 23 Feb 2018
I watched this again this week and it is still as funny and profound as the first time I saw it in the theater. Because of all the laughs it could be easy to miss the nuances and overall arc for some of the characters but Ragnarok is the perfect end of the Thor trilogy. It has him come full circle back to him home at a time when defining home and self are crucial. Thor was once an arrogant braggart who sought thrills above all else and over the course of his three films (despite the random quality) he has revealed himself to truly be an insecure child in the body of a man trying to find himself and his purpose.
This film has him do just that, thanks to the antagonist and the help of a few family and friends. The ending was truly remarkable and the sentiments behind it are very timely. Whatever is in store for Thor and the Asgardians a valuable lesson was learned. One I've heard echoed before long ago...
"China is in the heart, Jack. Where ever I go she's with me.".
