Review of Thor: Ragnarok (2017) by Dan E — 13 May 2018
The God of Thunder, who was short of overshadowed in his previous "solo" films, finally gets his moment to shine in "Thor: Ragnarok", where Taika Waititi does a major makeover to the Asgardian prince and turns him into one of the most fascinating heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Following the battle of Sokovia, Thor has been trying to find the Infinity Stones with no success whatsoever and decides to return back to his home, Asgard, where things are a little bit different than he remembered.
A new threat emerges, his sister Hella, the Goddess of Death, who plans to rule Asgard. Now, Thor must team up with his brother, Loki and fellow Avenger Bruce Banner - who has been also missing since that Sokovia battle - and a bunch of new friends they meet in their journey.
Chris Hemsworth shows off his comic talent - other than his ripped body - as Waititi and the writers finally embrace the lead actor's undeniable skill. "Ragnarok" also has one of the strongest supporting casts of all Marvel movies, with Cate Blanchett shining as Hella, a villain that is far more remarkable than what we are used to from this genre.
Hulk also gets a very interesting arc. The film is a visual delight, lough-out-loud funny, filled with some epically filmed action sequences, a marvelous soundtrack, but also a surprising amount of depth to balance out the story and give the Thor trilogy a meaningful conclusion that matches some of the MCU's best movies.
It's a total, colorful blast from start to finish.
