Review of Thor: Ragnarok (2017) by Joey M — 08 Jul 2018

Firstly it's overhyped. The movie was promised to be amazing but the entire time I was just bored and annoyed. The Thor in this movie is almost completely different than the Thor in the other two movies, as well as in the Avenger movies. Instead of an amazing strong and noble character with complex emotions we grew to love in both comics and on the big screen we got a watered down version that was used for a cheap laugh. Nothing against Chris Hemsworth though.

This is, in my opinion cause that's all these comments are, this is the worst of the Trilogy. While the second took itself far to seriously Ragnarok didn't take itself serious enough. Instead of strong moments when we can route for the characters all we got were bad jokes that ruined the suspense. Is it too much to ask for a moment of chilling suspense and no joke? The first was better because we saw a character with genuine problems and flaws. I.e. his overwhelming pride and cockiness. Instead we got a whiny brat who didn't really change much towards the end of the film. The first Thor also has well placed comedy that didn't ruin scene or overwhelm the audience.

Another problem with the movie is that the Trailer spoiled three huge scenes! One: Thor's hammer breaking. Two: The Hulk. Three: Hela is Thor's sister. Each of these would have been amazing to hide and reveal during the movie. It would have been something actually shocking.

And to be honest the plot was messy. Too much side story bull. It would have been better to either do a movie about Ragnarok, you know the mythical event the movie is named after, or to have a movie all about Hulk and Thor escaping the coliseum. Not both. Either would be fine! Also the only two characters that actually have any depth to them are Loki and Hela's Executioner. Seriously. Hela was a boring one dimensional villain and her lackey was more developed than her. Valkyrie chick, who's name I admittedly forget despite... never mind, was boring and had the same basic backstory you expect her to have. And she helps them because....? Banner understandibly was Banner. Meaning undeveloped and uncared about because he could be Hulk. Hulk... needs to explain some things. Like how he got there... or speaks English... or anything really. And could we have please given Grog some damn back story or anything. Like he could have been an interesting character but instead he was the random guy who just said something out of nowhere or wanted to be Class president. Also I want Beta Ray Bill.
