Review of Thor: Ragnarok (2017) by Benjamin S — 16 Feb 2018
Well they finally figured out how to make a great Thor movie, and a great Hulk movie. Just stick the two of them together and bam, you got a damn great piece of entertainment. Despite its galaxy-traveling plot the film is pretty straightforward.
It's basically the Odyssey, just a guy trying to get home and a bunch of crazy stuff keeps stopping him. I loved seeing Thor come across all these crazy characters. Not just the Hulk and Banner, there's some newcomers here (like a drunken Valkyrie) that are welcome additions to the ranks.
The Hulk/Thor bromance is really the centerpiece though. Seeing these two fight is something I always knew I'd like to see, but seeing them then sit down after the fight and talk about their emotions is something I never knew I needed to see.
It's really hard for me to come up with complaints about this movie. Maybe the villain could be stronger I guess. Jeff Goldblum is a lot of fun, but his motives and character history aren't explored that much.
Other than that though, it's just a ton of fun. It's visually stunning, innovative in its action, and often hilarious. Maybe not one of Marvel's deepest movies, but definitely one of their most enjoyable.
