Review of Thor: Ragnarok (2017) by Ryan P — 06 Jul 2018
Thor Ragnarok injects a life into Marvel's dullest hero quite simply with humour. One of the strongest entries into the MCU, Taika Waititi's Rangarok is arguably Marvel's most enjoyable, lighthearted and fun movie (and that is saying a lot).
Chris Hemsworth proves (again) that he is an incredibly comedic actor, capable of rivalling Robert Downey Jr. in 2018's Avengers: Infinity War. The supporting cast, Mark Ruffalo's Hulk and Tessa Thompson's Valkyrie are also standouts.
However, the best performance comes from Jeff Goldblum's Grandmaster, who's quirky humour adds makes the film that much more enjoyable. While the laughs are all good, it is all, unfortunately, done at the expense of more heartfelt moments.
GOTG 1 & even 2 effectively delivered some deep character scenes. Ragnarok does pull this off in some scenes, however, the humour often detracts from said scenes. That said, Thor Ragnarok is a delightful entry into the MCU and will leave moviegoers with a big smile on their face on the way home.
