Review of Thor (2011) by Brendan N — 14 Apr 2018
Kenneth branagh takes what could of been a joke and creates something that is original and full of ongoing potential. Each character has a moment to shine but its Hemsworth & Hiddleston who really land in the lead roles. Hemsworth has the character of Thor in the bag and its the humour & strength in the role that keeps you watching. Hiddleston is just so complex in the role Loki you can't help but feel sorry for what he is trying to overcome.
The story is full of interesting characters and the best part is a sequel will only reveal extra depth. Thor is a comic book film but underneath is a heartwarming tale of redemption like most of Marvels stories. the key is to leave your mind at the door and engage in something that isn't in movies all the time. this is a film unlike all the other comic book movies, the only reason that you'll know is because of the links to the marvel universe.
Just caught this again on the lead up to Avengers. This is one of those fun and harmless films that builds the universe Marvel are attempting to launch. This is a stronger film for mass consumption, unlike The Incredible Hulk which isn't a bad film, just not hugely successful. This was my favourite Phase One film for a long time but I think Iron Man still holds that trophy. Good film and serves the universe but not a genre turning film by any means. 14-04-2018.
