Review of Thor (2011) by Jesse G — 14 May 2014
While Thor is THE movie that opens up the Marvel Cinematic Universe with endless possibilities, it squanders that same potential in its own story-line. I like some of the characters (especially Loki, who is the only really consistent character in this story), and find others either useless or annoying.
The beginning is great! I wouldn't mind visiting Asgard, but once Thor literally hits rock bottom the film's pace nearly pushes the breaks relying on annoying dialogue and uncomfortable chemistry between Thor and the people of Midgard.
It perplexes me how dumb Thor seems among humans at first. Fortunately, once Thor gets the hang of things down here on Earth, we can get a hang of where the rest of the movie is going from there. By the way, why is this entire movie taking most of its place in a rinky dinky town in the middle of nowhere! All in all Thor knows how to throw the hammer but its aim is rather lame as it can only sometimes hit its mark due to this murky mess of a plot.
