Review of Thor (2011) by Josh K — 11 Nov 2013
The MARVEL Cinematic Universe has done it again with this latest entry leading up to the big ensemble: MARVEL's The Avengers. This film focuses on Thor, who is the arrogant son of Odin. Exiled to Earth, he encounters Jane Foster and a small scientific team, while his brother Loki attempts to gain the throne of Asgard.
The film is well-done summer entertainment, while it is also interesting to see Kenneth Branagh, mostly known for Shakespeare, take on a comic book film. In a way the film is almost Shakespearean, with an epic scope and grand music.
The performances are terrific, with Chris Hemsworth wonderfully depicting Thor, while Natalie Portman has fun as Jane Foster. Tom Hiddleston is the main attraction in this film as Loki, the primary villain.
The special effects are incredible, while Patrick Doyle's score is lush and beautiful. The film moves along wonderfully, while there is also a nice little scene after the end credits. Thor out of Thive (sorry Empire).
