Review of Thomas and the Magic Railroad (2000) by Kenny N — 13 Feb 2015
"Thomas and Friends" has been a part of my life since I was 3 years old. It's my favorite TV show ever. I"m a well-traveled man, connoisseur of great movies, television, music, books and such.
But NOTHING brings a smile to my face and a song to my heart like visiting my favorite friends on the Island of Sodor. This film had moments that made me smile, little bits of dialogue that the Rev. W.
Awdry would have been proud of, but overall, this is NOT a successful TV-to-movie transition. Baldwin and Fonda shoulder most of the blame. Baldwin goes WAY over the top, and Fonda's more wooden than Henry's forest.
True fans of the series (die hard ones like myself) know that a lot of changes were made to get this project completed, including the deletion of a crucial subplot that would have made the film a lot better.
I give it two stars, because I love Thomas and I always will. He invokes the magic in me. Hopefully he will get a better film soon.
