Review of Thomas and the Magic Railroad (2000) by Pat T — 14 Aug 2016
After seeing this film in a shop and buying it because I'm a nostalgic fellow and it was literally my childhood, I rewatched and cried at all its loveable beautiful weirdness, flower phones and that bit with the magic railroad that means I get shivers every time I go through a tree enclosed path.
I googled it, just to see what people thought of it and was shocked to discover that everyone hates it. I can't understand how a bunch of adults have decided, sounding somewhat begrudging, that "kids need cutting edge special effects" and therefore the film is bad.
If you think this is a poor standard for kids these days, don't use it! As a child I loved this film for its charm and I used to think about it constantly: scared of its villain, enchanted by its magic and laughing at its humour.
Maybe critics have just forgot to review a kids film through a child's eyes... For me, this film will always be a timeless classic.
