Review of This Sporting Life (1963) by Adam Z — 31 Aug 2007
The most important thing that can be said about 'This Sporting Life' is just how very intense it is, and most of this is down to the acting of Richard Harris. I have to admit, I have little experience of seeing films starring Harris other than as Albus Dumbledore, but I definitely want to see more now.
He steals the screen in a performance that will have you peeling the layers off of the onion, to use an analogy. A dark, disturbing and encapsulating watch that will have you wondering where the 2+ hours went.
Incredible.
