Review of This Sporting Life (1963) by Zhanyi J — 09 Feb 2008
Fantastic. A "kitchen sink drama" from 1960s England, This Sporting Life is a gritty snapshot in th elife of a miner who rises to fame as a professional rugby player. This commentary on class separation and exploitation is highly moving, as Alan Badel's Frank Machin character explodes off the screen with a harsh-yet-sympathetic demeanor.
The rugby sequences are exquisitely shot.
