Review of This Means War (2012) by Dave C — 28 Jul 2012
Absolutely ridiculous premise, and probably an even more ridiculous movie, BUT... I couldn't stop watching it. For as silly and groan inducing as the fast moving, fast talking overly stylized romantic action/comedy gets, it's hard not to catch a smile forming from time to time, even if it's only out of half or your mouth and a bit crooked.
The cast is decent, and they do give themselves to the premise. This is a film based on a single concept... two undercover agents find themselves falling for the same girl and creating a contest to see who she will choose in the end. Using their inside track and the tools provided from the government to track down killers and solve actual crime, the partners embark on an effort to out due the other by gaining the inside track on the type of person and character the girl (Witherspoon) is most likely to fall for. The girl of course concedes to trying to date two guys at once in an effort to make the best choice on her end.
The movie doesn't pretend to have much important to say, which is probably a good thing. Because it really doesn't. But perhaps what it does offer just might appease a room of viewers fighting over a romance versus action flick well enough as a mash up of both worlds.
