Review of This Means War (2012) by Alan L — 19 Jun 2013
The trailers did absolutely nothing for me, despite the fact that I like Tom Hardy and Chris Pine. Well, I decided to give it a shot because it was on HBO, and, well, I shouldn't have even tried. This Means War follows two CIA agents who are fighting for the same woman's affection.
The director is McG, and that should've been my indicator. Yes, I enjoyed Terminator Salvation, but not because of his direction. This film has no comedy, there's no chemistry between the leads, and the everything looks so cheesey and like a TV movie.
The writing is cringe worthy, but not as bad as the acting. Despite Chris Pine and Tom Hardy being pretty great actors, they really phone it in here. As for Reese Witherspoon, well, I never liked her so it's unfair for me to judge.
This film is short, but it feels like it lasts for hours. If you're looking for a film on date night, you'd be hardpressed to not find a better one.
