Review of This Island Earth (1955) by Brian S — 01 Jul 2008
Being 50s sci-fi, you know straight off you're not in for an academy-award winner. the special effects were surprisingly impressive, but the rest of the film fits right into the genre mold--mediocre acting, laughable pseudo-serious script, anti-nuclear sentiment, intellectually superior but still surprisingly human aliens.
..certainly not outstanding by any leaps and bounds, but it is a definitive classic of Cold War-era science fiction.
