Review of This Is Where I Leave You (2014) by Lilianetty L — 04 Jan 2015
One of those dramedys that features a pretty strong cast that doesn't have strong material to lift them beyond meandering. Centring around the death of the family patriarch, Jason Bateman and the rest of his family getogether for the funeral only to find out their father had requested for them to sit shiva as a way to rebond together and find some common ground after spending too much time apart.
None of the characters are all together sympathetic or at least you don'y really connect with them as one should, and it seems like the family skelentons that appear throughout doesnt possess the necessary punch that one might expect or hope for to make it a fufilling journey.
At times I almost felt like it wanted to be August Osage County lite. Not that I had high hopes but disappointing.
