Review of This Is Where I Leave You (2014) by Greg B — 21 Sep 2014
"This is where I leave you" has gotten pretty decent audience reviews, but I'm actually going to go against the grain here and say this film is actually quite bad. True, I can't relate to some of the subject matter given my age (27), but I judge a movie by its merit and not by its source material.
I feel this film squanders Tina Fey and Jason Batemans' talents. With such competent comics at its helm, the screenplay should work based on their bravado. Actually, it doesn't. Both actors feel out of place in this film.
In my opinion, the film never gets off the ground, and stays stagnant both in plot and character development throughout. I found the film frankly so boring that I walked out before the end and spend the majority of the movie perusing my I-phone.
It was just a hard movie to get into, and I actually found the execution quite inept. I know many viewers will disagree with my assessment, but I just don't see the good in this movie that others have.
Maybe I'm off my rocker but I found this movie tedious and terrible ----------------------------------------- D.
