Review of This Is Where I Leave You (2014) by Yanti A — 08 Dec 2014
I couldn't stand the book. I read it for three chapters and then decided to watch the movie instead continued reading it. And the movie turns out fine. I didn't expect much since it got kinda low rating here. But this movie is just fine and I actually like it. It won't be like any other movies which I'd praise because it gives me such an insight about family or life. This movie doesn't give me anything. But it's watchable, it's bearable, it's... fine.
I like every character here. All the Altman's children, the mother, the mother's lover, the mother's lover's son who's in love with the mother's daughter. Even the son's older therapyst girlfriend. All of them, weirdly enough, are sympathetic and that's enough to make me stick 'til the end of the movie.
It's not dark, it's not that complicated, they're not that troubled, but comes from the director who made Date Night, Real Steel, The Internship, Night at the Museum, and some other comedy flicks (which turns out I've seen a lot of his movies), this can be added to his mediocre dramedy list.
