Review of This Is the End (2013) by Elçin T — 10 Jun 2014
While the film could have easily been an exercise in pure narcissism (and probably is to a certain extent) as the actors play "themselves," This is the End ends up being a brilliant satire of Hollywood culture and apocalyptic anxieties.
The actors create self-deprecating versions of themselves, play off various horror movie themes, and engage in hilarious shenanigans from beginning to end. A skewering of Hollywood as well as materialism, This is the End is a film that manages to be raunchy, funny, and intelligent at all at the same time.
