Review of This Is the End (2013) by Austin P — 22 May 2016
Sophomoric and overrated. Seriously, all Seth Rogen movies are the same now with the same plot and the same jokes. The Night Before? Getting high and having sex at Christmas. Neighbors? Getting high at having sex at a fraternity.
The Interview? Getting high and having sex while trying to kill Kim Jong Un. And this movie? Getting high and having sex while the apocalypse is happening. But they're all playing themselves, so it's automatically original! Yeah, right.
What's the point of them playing themselves? They never provide a good reason. And the jokes? No, just no. Danny McBride talks about raping Emma Watson and we're supposed to laugh. Nearly an entire two minutes is devoted to a dialogue about self-gratification.
Oh, look! A demon's penis is showing! HA HA HA! THAT'S THE FUNNIEST THING EVER! Pfft. Lastly, the ending is just horrible. Half of their friends die and there's a horrible, blasphemous misrepresentation of Heaven.
If you're a true fan of comedy, then avoid this at all costs. Now Rogen is about to desecrate animation with Sausage Party, which involves him getting high and having sex as a talking sausage. Lord help us all.
