Review of This Is Spinal Tap (1984) by Nia S — 24 Mar 2012
Mockumentaries today are a little overdone. Shows like The Office, Modern Family, and Parks and Recreation have proved their point with the genre. And even though This Is Spinal Tap might not be the original mockumentary, it still outdoes any mockumentary production to have ever existed.
Rob Reiner takes you on a satirical look into the lives of British rock musicians, and he hits it on the head. Many rock stars today watch this movie and think, "Whoever made this must have been there, because this is exactly how it was.
" Christopher Guest has had many other successful projects similar to Spinal Tap (like Best in Show, A Mighty Wind, and Waiting For Guffman). But Spinal Tap remains as one of the most original and clever comedies to hit the screen.
Check out the soundtrack while you're at it, it's Weird Al on steroids.
