Review of This Is Spinal Tap (1984) by Nathan C — 13 Oct 2012
An intermittently amusing and clever spoof of the 80's rock-biz that's well over-hyped. This movie is not cranked up to 11, as many people claim it to be. Even so, this is a genuine effort from Rob Reiner (whose best work is still and will always be "The Princess Bride") and his motley crew of actors.
It offers some biting satire and rocks with a great soundtrack -- as well as great footage, but leaves behind a sour aftertaste and a sense of existential patheticness. These guys could pass as a band though.
