You don't have to be a rock fan to love this film but it helps. Tap is one of the most brilliantly executed spoofs of all time, if not the benchmark itself. Following the follies of a British metal band trying to make it big in America, characterisations and performances are great throughout, and we forgive Derek Smalls the occasional mid-Atlantic slip-up since we know he could be going the other way too.
Gags are beautifully subtle and will remain ingrained in the consciousness of many generations to come.
