Review of This Is Spinal Tap (1984) by Marcus G — 09 Aug 2010
I wish I'd seen this in the '80s, I really do. This was a hilarious film, but I missed out on truly appreciating its comedy by the fact that I've seen it all before, or since.
This is a brilliant and natural pastiche on Rock and music in general. The performances, dialogue were thoroughly enjoyable, but there are moments of genius when they managed to capture the essence of the music and lifestyles they affectionately mock.
But it also had a heart, reflected within its story arch. This was a bittersweet story of a rock band which could be any rock band. The comedy was first rate, and so many classic lines that just summed up everything which they tried, and succeeded at doing.
One of the spoofs of which all others should be judged...
