Review of This Is Not a Film (2011) by Anonymous User — 13 Jan 2013
Not exactly bursting at the seams with crowd pleasing entertainment but this is the prob the most powerful political documentary i've seen in a while. it's getting some hate from not being about anything and I think that's code for "the police don't show up unexpectedly and demand that they halt the filming and panahi says no then the police violently pry the camera off their defiant hands".
the message is there all the same, and the long sequences of panahi passionately putting his vision out there and desperately making one final artistic statement before the inevitable occurs is genuinely gripping, tragic stuff.
