Review of This Is England (2007) by Jamey B — 22 Nov 2008
Now here's a tricky one. It opened slowly, first about halfways did the film start to make any sense. Something about it made it seem as if it would have been better as a tv series, there were some weird subplots going on that didn't really have much to do with the main story.
And Milky. I never really understood the point with him, why was he in a skinhead gang in the first place? And this other chap, Bongo or something, he left me in the dark too. He didn't seem realistic, and the whole skinhead thing gave me a feeling that the closest contact the director has had with one is when he hid from them as a kid.
The best bits were the old footage, that was some nice nostalgia there.
