Review of This Is England (2007) by Brian R — 05 Dec 2008
This film explores the familiar Meadows themes of loss, identity and the need to belong, but because the main character is a 12-year-old boy it is particularly poignant. Meadows seems to have the knack of drawing fine performances from his younger actors - Thomas Turgoose is staggeringly good in the way that he depicts Shaun's impotent rage but also his vulnerability.
