Review of This Is England (2007) by Matthew S — 03 Apr 2009

Really powerful movie. It's a great representation of Thatcher's England. As well as a good commentary on racial confusion in the 1980s and the positive reactions to the rise of the Nationalist party. It really captures England with it's style better than Guy Ritchie has ever managed to do. An incredible film which just reminds you how shit people can be when it comes to issues such as race and immigration. One thing about this movie I don't really get is the physical relationship between 12 year old Shaun and 18 year old Smell. This must be here for comedy effect because it delivers nothing but. Other than this odd moment it's an awesome and powerful movie.
