In response to the reviews, this is no more self-indulgent than a Tarantino or P. T. Anderson movie. If you're a good writer, why not show it off? This is a wonderful script, filled from beginning to end with wit and heart.
The simplicity of the plot allows the characters to just inhabit the screen, in their regular daily lives. One of the most hilarious and heartfelt movies I've seen in a long time, and I'd even my personal favorite from Apatow.
