Review of This Is 40 (2012) by James R — 17 Jul 2014
Pete (Paul Rudd) and Debbie (Leslie Mann) the couple from Knocked Up are turning 40 and their lives are hitting a bit of a turning point. Their two daughters don't get along, their businesses are going through rough times and Debbie is secretly keeping the fact that she's pregnant from Pete.
The movie has some funny moments especially one's that anybody thats ever been in a relationship can relate to, but the movie is just too random. The movie first off is 2 hours and 14 minutes long.
Judd Apatow has been making his films about 30 minutes too long lately and it would have benefited from being edited down a bit and really getting into the main story. The story is about no matter how much you try to change things you have to realize family is there for you and you can work through anything.
The film has a nice message about this, but leads to so much other sub plots that it loses track of what's going on. The film also stars Albert Brooks, Megan Fox and Chris O'Dowd along with some other surprise cameos.
Overall, I was a big fan of Knocked Up, but this one just didn't do it for me. It's a rent at the very least!
