Review of This Is 40 (2012) by Eric M — 09 Jun 2015
Apatow truly understands families and the desire for adventure/excitement/validation juxtaposed with the desire for a soothing, reliable and cozy family environment. these two desires often live side by side & confuse the hell out of us.
yes, first world problems....but still, he gets it. He captures both the love and underlying rage we often feel. and Leslie Mann is so good at what she does. she captures the pathos so well. the only issue I had with this movie is $80,000 !??! the dad borrows $80k they have to sell their house and he isn't more.
.....ashamed? that bugged me. Maude Apatow is really mesmerizing to watch, her eyes are quite lovely and expressive. she is going to be a force as an adult actress. and anytime Paul Rudd, Melissa McCarthy, and John Lithgow are together in a movie.
...well you have to watch that.
