Review of This Girl's Life (2004) by Rain R — 13 Feb 2006
This Girl's Life is the story of a young woman named moon (Juliette Marquis) who enters the sex industry at age 18 and becomes an internet star. Marquis injects a combination of sexiness and sweetness into her role, showing some promise in her feature film debut.
The film at times has potential. Moon's entry into the sex world wasn't forced, she didn't have a history of sexual abuse, and she genuinely enjoys her work. At the same time she attempts to have a normal life outside of her work, and she indeed appears normal.
She has non-industry friends (one played by Rosario Dawson) and a father (James Woods) with Parkinson's Disease that she cares for. Unfortuntaley this film often tries to do too much. The relationship between Moon and her father, which had the potential to be this film's saving grace, is simply glossed over and becomes more of a sideshow than an integral part of the film.
The fact that her father suffers from Parkinson's Disease mandates better development in this area, or it becomes a distraction. It should have been developed better or left out of the film entirely.
Despite some decent performances, this film ultimately fails due to it's uneven script.
