Review of This Film Is Not Yet Rated (2006) by Matt G — 28 Feb 2009
I love this film! It sticks it to the MPAA, which is more than deserving for it's inconsistent and ridiculous targeting films for sexual content without being close to fair in targeting films with heavy violence.
While, the film does falter when it tries to add suspense in photographing members of the ratings board, it does reveal the absolute absurd connection between major studios and the MPAA as it tries to stifle independent and arthouse cinema in America.
It is a film of utmost importance that rips the veneer off of the board and shows it for what it really is. It has razor-sharp focus on showing how films are rated and how the film there is a grand hypocrisy and inconsistency in how films are rated.
It does sometimes drag and slow down, but it never falls too far from its mission. I love this film not only because I am a filmmaker and film lover, but because it strikes to the issue of artistic freedom to produce a vision as well as consumers' freedom to watch celebrate art and to have ability to choose to see something for themselves.
