It's as I always tell my relatives with kids, "If you aren't sure the movie is appropriate, preview it first and make your own judgement if your kids can handle it." Part of this is I can't judge what's appropriate for kids, not having any, and part is I always knew the MPAA system was faulty; "responsible" adults being able to take their 5-year-olds into Passion of the Christ taught me that.

This documentary goes into the particulars of the faulty rating system and it's corrupt management. It doesn't cover all the angles on the issue, but is a great starting point for discussion and a MUST see.
