Review of This Film Is Not Yet Rated (2006) by David P — 21 May 2009
A very revealing film. It reveals the MPAA as an unnecessary, and indeed, outdated organization, which is nevertheless overwhelmingly powerful in that it, in effect, controls which movies will and will not be marketed by the film studios.
The organization is shown to be dishonest (not just private) about its reviewers, and to be arbitrary, inconsistent, and hypocritical รข?? actually bordering on propagandic (i.e., with its tendency to enforce a message in war movies that the U.
S. military is good, and soldiers are heroes). After viewing this movie (and informed by a brief read of an article by Tony Comstock about the history of the X and NC-17 ratings), I see no purpose at all for the MPAA as it currently exists.
