A lot of the nuance and subtlty from Tobias Wolff's memoir is taken out in place of over the top caricatures. DiCaprio is great in one of his early roles, but it's De Niro unfortunately, who bogs things down.
He's basically oan over the top cartoon, remanants of past characters he's played.
